Our Story
What’s the story behind the name ‘Standard Beagle?’
#TLDR
The term Standard Beagle started as an inside joke between our two founders.
Here’s the story:
Andy and Cindy had a dog named Bennie, and she looked like a giant beagle. People used to ask them, “Is that a beagle?”
They would answer, “She’s a ‘standard beagle.'”
Bennie was actually a valuable — but lesser-known — hunting breed called a Treeing Walker Coonhound.
When our founders rebranded in 2012, they chose that name for our company because it was unique, fun, and dogs are awesome.
The Standard Beagle way
The “standard beagle” origin story captures much of the spirit of our company: fun, creative, quirky.
Things are much the same today. Our team meetings are often filled with laughter, and we still love talking about our dogs.
